Abstract

This article presents the results of an experiment in irrigated feed production under conditions of the Kyzyl Kum desert with the use of artesian mineralized water. The results of a study of halophyte palatability to astrakhan sheep showed that hay of Atriplex nitens, Kochia scoparia, and Suaeda altissima was consumed rather well (55–77.3%) and satisfactorily. However, the palatability of Climacoptera lanata proved to be the lowest, i.e., only 16.0%. Climacoptera lanata is known to accumulate in its phytomass up to 40% of salts. In the authors’ opinion, that is why its palatability was the lowest. After it was washed with warm water, the palatability of Climacoptera lanata increased to 79.13%.
