Abstract

Chemical and isotopic purities of a neptunium sample have been analyzed by a radiochemical method for the measurements of the precise nuclear data on 237Np. Small amounts of plutonium, americium and curium as impurities were contained in the sample. After the neptunium was thoroughly separated from the impurities by an ion exchange method, the isotopic abundance of neptunium was determined by a-ray spectrometry. The measured atom number ratio of 236Np/237Np was 3.1x10−8, where the 236Np is a by-product through the 237Np(n,2n) 236NP reaction during a process of neptunium production. The content of 236Np does not give any unfavorable effect on the nuclear data measurement of 237Np.
