Abstract
We argue that both pseudogap and superconducting states of the cuprates arise exactly in the antinodal region with nesting of the Fermi contour as spatially inhomogeneous incoherent and coherent states of pairs with large momentum. Numerical study of momentum-dependent gap function results in a checkerboard pair density wave spatial order. We explain the momentum dependence of the coherent spectral weight detected in angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and predict antinodal quasiparticle interference.
