Abstract
Recently several solution concepts for cooperative games have been defined on a new solution space — the space of aspirations. This paper presents characterization results for this space. Unlike other solution spaces — the set of imputations and the set of IRPCs for a given coalition structure — the structure of the space is not trivial and vectors in the space do not have the interpretation of being the feasible payoff distributions for a given coalition structure. The results presented here provide a technique for calculating aspirations and an interpretation of aspirations as the set all coalitionally rational payoff distributions for the game. We also show that, unlike the other solution spaces which are compact convex subsets of RN, the set of aspirations is not convex and indeed not even star shaped.
