Abstract
Successful application of accelerated cooling to any type of hot rolling depends on the ability to properly control cooling rate. For greatest benefit, the cooling system should be designed to provide the desired cooling pattern along the length, across the width or around the circumference, and from top to bottom of the hot rolled steel. Ability to closely control cooling rate depends on knowledge of both the cooling characteristics of the spray system and the steel surface temperature.
