Abstract

Sendai virus (murine respirovirus) is a negative-sense, membrane-enveloped RNA virus belonging to the Paramyxoviridae family, which also includes measles and parainfluenza viruses. Despite causing respiratory disease in rodents, Sendai virus is non-pathogenic in humans and therefore has recently gained attention as a virus vector candidate for gene therapy and vaccine development. To infect host cells, Sendai virus attaches to sialic-acid-containing glycolipid receptors on the surface of host cells via the hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) protein.
