Abstract

In this report of otological involvement in XLH patients, 23% of them presented hearing loss. Patients with hearing loss had higher prevalence of tinnitus and lower serum phosphate compared to patients without hearing loss. Otologic involvement was not significantly associated to the severity of other XLH manifestations. Special attention should be given to children, considering that none of them reported symptoms of hearing loss, but up to one third of them had audiometric abnormalities. An active search strategy of otological involvement is needed in patients with XLH.
