Abstract

AbstractWe deal with the characteristic modes of perfectly conducting bodies and of loss‐free dielectric or magnetic bodies, endowed with h mutually orthogonal symmetry planes (1 ≥ h ≥ 3). It is shown that by suitably choosing basis and weighting functions, the moment method transforms the eigenvalue equation defining the modes into a matrix eigenvalue equation involving matrices partitioned into 2h diagonal blocks.
