Abstract

A family of cyclic β-1,2-glucans, substituted with sn-glycerol-1-phosphate at the C6 position of some of the glucose residues, has been found in the culture supernatant of the fast-growing, broad host range Rhizobium species, NGR234. The dynamic behaviour of the molecules, studied by 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, showed that they are disc-shaped with significant, but limited internal motion.
