Abstract

There are two types of passive participles. The first type are participles that begin in a root letter. These participles are found only in the symbol פרת. The second type are passive participles that begin in a mem. If an active participle begins in a mem, this can be either built-in or affixed. But if a passive participle begins in a mem, it can only be built-in. The mem of the passive participle can be vocalised in two ways, first, with a qubbuṣ and, second, with a shewa. Passive participles that do not have a built-in mem are vocalised with a qamaṣ at the front, e.g., זכור, שמור and similar cases, such as עשוי. Whenever an imperative ends in a built-in heh, its passive participle will inevitably end in a heh. Keywords: heh; imperative; mem; passive participles; qamaṣ; qubbuṣ; root letter; shewa
