Abstract

In recent times, the use of DC power-based equipment's has increased rapidly, which has propelled the development and adoption of the DC microgrid. However, resolving the protection issues in DC microgrid is more complex as compared to AC microgrid. The complexity pertains to high magnitude of fault current, operation under stressed scenarios, unipolar current nature, and stringent speed requirement of the relaying scheme. Therefore, to mitigate the severe effect of pole to ground and pole to pole fault on different components of the DC microgrid system, an LDA-based protection scheme has been proposed. The mode identification, fault detection/classification as well as the section identification tasks have been performed by a set of LDA classifiers. The test results reflect the effectiveness of the LDA based classifier in protecting the system under stressed conditions.
