Abstract

Therapeutic devices are instruments or apparatuses intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease as well as to maintain or restore health. For instance, physical therapists often ask patients to use exercise equipment such as bikes and treadmills. In addition to exercising the affected area, a physical therapist may treat it with heat or cold, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, massage, or aquatic therapy. Therapeutic purpose means any of the following: preventing, diagnosing, monitoring, alleviating, treating, curing, or compensating for a disease, ailment, defect, or injury. This chapter provides a detailed overview of therapeutic equipment used in medical diagnosis and aftercare.
