Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to show how to modify the equations of state for mixtures. After introducing the equation of state for an ideal gas mixture in Section 8.1, extensions of the virial and cubic equations of state to mixtures are given in Sections 8.2 and 8.3, respectively. Section 8.4 deals with the calculations of changes in internal energy, enthalpy, and entropy for mixtures using departure functions. The resulting equations are expressed in dimensionless form for the virial and cubic (van der Waals, Redlich–Kwong, Soave–Redlich–Kwong, and Peng–Robinson) equations of state.
