Abstract

Sampling is a process of collecting a small portion of an object that represents the whole property under investigation. Samples are collected by various means and methods that are suitable to situations without compromising quality and reproducibility. Collection tools include diamond core, reverse circulation rock chips, wire-line continuous core recovery, air-core for soft formation, sonic, directional, and all hydraulic. A drill path is surveyed for angle and bearing by a reflex multishot camera. Maximum core recovery, preservation, and tough-book logger with online data transfer are available. Sampling methods are pitting, trenching, channel, chip, core, noncore, sludge, and bulk. Drilling optimization needs a knowledge-based comparability approach. Standard chemical analytical methods are discussed with choice and suitability.
