Abstract
The subject of sustainable and clean energy has been a serious concern across the globe, coupled with the application of different efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reactions (OER). Developing efficient, robust, lower-cost, long durability, and active electrocatalysts for OER necessitates the application of novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-based electrocatalysts, which are now attracting considerable attention in the last decades. This is due to their exceptional composition, tunability, large surface area, high porosity, and diverse structural uniqueness. The development of these MOF-based electrocatalysts is necessary to overcome the sluggish OER kinetics. Considering the emergence of MOF-based electrocatalysts for OER, this chapter began with a brief insight into ligand-based modification, structural and engineering components of MOFs, and the evaluation and characterization techniques for MOF electrocatalysts for efficient OER. It further addresses the advances in different novel MOF electrocatalysts such as pristine MOFs, MOF-derived electrocatalyst materials, MOF-conductive composite materials, and other MOF-based materials for OER. It concluded by highlighting some challenges and future perspectives of MOFs-based materials for practical and industrial applications.
