Abstract
The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) has been on the rise globally. In the United States alone, over 34 million people are burdened with the disease. The increased incidence of the disease makes it a common health condition among hospitalized patients and other healthcare settings. Due to the rapid development of digital consumer health technology, it has recently been proposed that digital health technology will revolutionize healthcare by simplifying and optimizing healthcare delivery. There is a recent push to digitize healthcare and maximize the use of technology to improve patient care and reduce the escalating cost of healthcare. Diabetes, being a common chronic condition that is difficult to manage and treat, is expected to gain the greatest benefit in providing quality care from digitization. The goal of this chapter is to review recent digital tools and devices that are on the market for management of diabetes and assess their potential benefits for patients in optimizing their diabetes care.
