Abstract
Molecular diagnostics is a rapidly evolving area of laboratory medicine as newer technical advancements are being integrated into its applications. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has been proven to be the most useful technique in molecular diagnostics; therefore several innovations were carried out in past decades to make it more versatile and applicable. TaqMan assay based on real-time PCR (RT-PCR) is a breakthrough discovery in the clinical diagnostic world. TaqMan low-density array is a microfluidic card designed to carry out 384 RT-PCRs simultaneously that can support 1–8 samples, 11–380 assay targets in 1–4 replicates. Therefore these cards offer convenience, easy loading without liquid handling system, and flexible custom target assays to detect multiple pathogens rapidly. These array cards have been used in clinical investigations on bacterial and viral pathogens, including respiratory pathogens, enteropathogens, blood-borne viral pathogens.
