Abstract

As science progresses, human beings have gone to the production and use of smart technologies. Smart drug release systems have recently become an exciting field. In this context, responsive polymers are integral parts. Stimuli-sensitive or intelligent polymers undergo an abrupt change in their physical properties in response to a small external or internal environmental stimulus. Temperature, pH, light, electric or magnetic, and biostimulants are the driving forces for controlling drug release. Therefore understanding the structures of these stimuli-responsive polymers is a crucial point for smart drug release systems. This chapter serves as a bridge between polymer science and drug release knowledge.
