Abstract
Members under axial force only bear axial tension and compression and can be divided into axial tensile members and axial compressive members. The common section forms of members under axial force can be divided into solid-web type and lattice type. The solid-web member is simple to manufacture and convenient to connect with other members. A single section of section steel can be directly selected, or a build-up section composed of section steel or steel plate can be selected. The lattice member is easy to meet the equal stability of the compressive member in the direction of two main axes. It has large stiffness, good torsional performance, and the materials of lattice members are less. Its section is generally composed of two or more section steels. For the design of axial tensile members, the strength and stiffness should be checked, and for the design of axial compressive members, the strength, stiffness, and stability should be checked.
