Abstract

This chapter will take a psychodynamic approach to explaining common hurdles the on-call doctor will face. Clinical examples will illustrate how transference, countertransference, and multiple defense mechanisms (such as projective identification and help-rejecting complaining) can create tension, but also provide invaluable data, within a clinical encounter.
