Abstract

Lannea schweinfurthii commonly known as False Marula (Family: Anacardiaceae) is a deciduous tree or shrub, geographically distributed in several parts of Southern and Eastern Africa. It is used traditionally in the management of several human ailments including venereal, gastrointestinal, neurological, and inflammatory diseases. Preliminary phytochemical studies revealed the presence of diverse classes of compounds from the stem and root bark extracts. There has been no record of phytochemistry and biological activities from the leaves and fruits. This chapter presents a detail description of the biological activities of crude extracts and compounds isolated from root and stem bark. There exists a major gap in knowledge and a great opportunity to learn something new from this plant. An extensive study of its biological activities, validation of traditional usage, and safety are required.
