Abstract

Practical and scientific guidance is provided for optimal design, management, and monitoring of remediation treatment fluid applications in petroleum reservoirs. Identification, assessment, and management of risks and opportunities involving the alleviation of formation damage problems are discussed. The important steps necessary toward establishing an effective formation damage abatement program and its implementation for a given field are reviewed. Applications are illustrated by several examples, including the formation damage prevention and remediation dealing with a heavy oil reservoir produced by means of a thermal enhanced oil recovery method.
