Abstract

The discovery of drawable carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays opened up the possibility of constructing a wide range of pure CNT macrostructures, especially pure CNT yarns, and sparked interests in developing a wide range of applications from these structures. This chapter reviews the synthesis of vertically aligned carbon nanotube arrays, also known as CNT forests, the drawing of a continuous web from the forest and the densification of the web into a yarn. Prospects for CNT yarn production scale-up are also discussed.
