Abstract

This chapter presents an overview on the bodies that are responsible for defining EMC standards. The International Electrotechnical Commission (lEC) is composed of national committees that are expected to be fully representative of all electrotechnical interests in their respective countries. For telecommunications equipment, the European telecommunications standards institute (ETSI) is the mandated standards body. ETSI generates standards for telecoms network equipment that is not available to the subscriber, and for radio communications equipment and broadcast transmitters. CENELEC and ETSI use lEC/CISPR results wherever possible as a basis for the preparation of drafts for standards, and the committee charged with the duty of preparing the EMC standards is TCI 10.
