Abstract

This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the technology and related scientific development achieved in the field of polymer-based microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes. Detailed insight into the use of different polymers as raw materials for membrane fabrication, their effect on desired properties, and diverse applications have been discussed. Ample research and studies have been conducted in the last decade to find new polymeric materials and related techniques for fabricating and modifying polymeric membranes to be used in MF- and UF-based applications. This chapter covers the most recent and applicable achievements regarding the preparation, modification, and performance of polymeric MF and UF membranes for environmental remediation and industrial application. Finally, the chapter folds by presenting a detailed insight on promising future outlook in the polymer-based MF/UF membranes for separation and purification processes. The holistic approach of bringing all the information about low-pressure polymeric membrane systems will undoubtedly help the researchers and scholars work in separation science and direct their search in a desired innovative direction.
