Abstract

Product-service system (PSS), as a typical service-oriented business model, has been existing for more than two decades with large impact and fruitful outcomes to guide industrial servitization transformation. Unlike many existing works reviewing PSS from a business-oriented perspective, this chapter holds an interesting view from technical perspectives by looking at how the waves of IT innovation influences the evolvement of PSS and its paradigms. First, a brief recap of PSS is given in this chapter to describe its essence and milestones in history. Then, the evolvement of IT-driven PSS paradigms is depicted and further divided into three typical phases, including internet/mobile internet-based PSS, IoT-enabled PSS and Smart PSS. Their key aspects, interrelationship, and differences are also described in detail from the degree of digital servitization perspective.
