Abstract

Products which are modified genetically by altering their DNA using techniques of Genetic Engineering (GE), mostly for the benefit of the society are called Genetically Modified Products/Organisms or GMOs. This technology aims to produce modified crops, plants, or organisms with more favorable effects compared to conventional techniques such as hybridization, selective breeding or mutation breeding, etc. Outcomes of genetically engineered products are predominantly promising compared to the conventional method of modification. However, GMOs are getting opposition by society with the concern that propagation of GMOs may lead to loss of conventional techniques also it may promote excess use of pesticides and agro products which possibly will have adverse effect on human health and environment.
