Abstract
Some physical properties of grain have been studied in detail because of their influence on the dielectric properties of those materials. The moisture dependence of density, both kernel density and bulk density, is prominent among those. Also, kernel dimensions and kernel and seed densities are of interest, and they have been determined for a range of agricultural grain and crop seeds. Graphical relationships between bulk density and moisture content, and between kernel density and moisture content, are presented for both wheat and corn. Polynomial regression equations for these relationships are also provided. Porosity and moisture content relationships for wheat and corn are shown graphically. Also, for a reasonable selection of seeds of grain and other agricultural crops, physical properties, including moisture content, test weight, bulk density, seed weight, seed volume, seed density, and seed dimensions, are tabulated for reference along with volume coefficients for relating kernel or seed dimensions and volume.
