Abstract

Plastic packaging has become essential in the present plastic economy; therefore, attempt has been made to recover its material value from the waste stream. Owing to the intricate structure of polymers, it is burdensome to recycle all plastic material as there is no efficient recycling technology that is cost-effective and has no obnoxious impact on the environment. Leading plastic packaging industries are working on a solution that will ameliorate the recycling suitability of multi-layer packaging or employ biodegradable materials reinforced with nanomaterials. This chapter deciphers the challenges in attaining circular economy and other economic considerations of recycling conventional plastics. In addition, the factors which can influence the circular economy will be discussed.
