Abstract

Pulverization of coal is carried out in two stages. Level of fineness is such that about 70% of fine particles pass through 200mesh and about 98% pass through 50mesh. Grinding inside pulverizers is realized by impact, attrition, crushing, or a combination of these. Pulverizers may be of the suction type or the pressurized type. Pulverizer speed is classified as “low,” “medium,” and “high.” The purpose of the “clean air flow test of a pulverizer” is to achieve design rate of primary air flow through each pulverizer at any time and to ensure equal flow through each coal-air discharge pipe of each pulverizer to guarantee more efficient combustion, reduced emissions of air pollutants, and fewer problems of waterwall tube wastage and burner damage. Velocity in each coal-air pipe is maintained at about 17m/s. Minimum primary air flow through a pulverizer is 70% of the full-load primary air flow.
