Abstract

This is the 12th chapter of this work. Here, we shall deal with the final considerations facing the surveyor at the end of his inspection. While the surveyor has been working closely with his ship’s officers during his attendance, on completion of his survey he must make sure that nothing is forgotten. The surveyor must recap with regard to the data he has recorded and he must review the copies of the ship’s certificates or any other documentation that he has collected. He should then revisit his checklists to make sure that nothing is missing. At this stage, he must also prepare any certificates that need to be signed by him and by the ship’s Master and Chief-Engineer and make sure that these are both signed and stamped as required. Copies of these certificates must be distributed to all the parties concerned. This is an essential practice because once he has left the ship he must be in full readiness to compile a comprehensive formal report that will be satisfactory to both the Owners and the Charterers for settling their accounts in respect of a particular Charter.
