Abstract

In this chapter, the authors define central criteria and key constraints in scaffold design. We then in turn review the current state-of-the-art in manufacturing techniques applied to scaffold fabrication, especially within the context of additive manufacturing. The rationale, characteristics, and process parameters of the scaffold fabrication techniques are presented including electrohydrodynamic-, extrusion-, and resin-based fabrication. The main aim of this chapter is to assist readers by providing information on the toolbox of technologies available to design and manufacture scaffolds for applications in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
