Abstract

Neurological manifestations of gluten-related disorders (positive serology for gluten sensitivity and/or coeliac disease) are very common. Such manifestations can exist with or without enteropathy and in the absence of gastrointestinal symptoms. Ataxia (Gluten Ataxia-GA) is the commonest neurological manifestation, followed by peripheral neuropathy (Gluten Neuropathy-GN). Headache often associated with cognitive deficits and cognitive slowing is another such manifestations often referred as gluten encephalopathy. Epilepsy, various movement disorders, and muscle disorders have also been linked to gluten sensitivity and coeliac disease. This chapter will focus on these manifestations and will also discuss what is known about the pathophysiology.
