Abstract

Minerals are essential for the growth and prosperity of human society. Every country allocates funds for sustainable resource enhancement through exploration programs. The process of discovery and development of deposits necessitates high risk, extensive time, and sustained cash flow. One discovery out of 100 or 1000 attempts pays back all the effort. Exploration success depends on investment friendly environment, transparency, internationality, political commitments, and the will of federal and state governments. The chapter initiates the modern definition of mineral, rock, ore-protore, classification, deposit, commodity, value added and deleterious elements, gangue-tailing supported by images, diagrams, and worldwide examples.
