Abstract

Sustainable growth is a major challenge since requiring a balance between economic imperatives and environmental awareness. Under these circumstances, the development of new, promising, and more sustainable technologies on industrial scales with lower energy consumption, less waste and/or wastewater generation, and higher productivity while playing a dominant role in the circular economy compared to the conventional options, is of vital importance. Hence, it is reasonable that membrane technology has been highlighted since its first inception in the past decades. This was undoubtedly owing to the inherently lower energy requirement and higher efficiency of membrane technology. Therefore, membranes could revolutionize the concept of separation processes and have been playing a dominant role in advanced separation for a wide range of applications lately.
