Abstract

recently, the Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) has gained momentum as a new broadband internet access technology, where most of the traffic is heading towards the gateway, as users need to access the internet and other wired resources. However, increasing the network capacity is still an open issue. One way to increase the network capacity is to equip each mesh router with multi-radio and turn each interface into a non-overlapping channel. These additional interfaces can create multiple concurrent links between adjacent nodes. In this paper, we propose a channel reservation scheme for common traffic in WMN, which reserves one of these links for common traffic, while the remaining links are simultaneously used for the other traffics such as local traffic. Our scheme aims to reduce the interference for common traffic, supports full duplex transmission as well as enables multi-flow transmission simultaneously. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme can greatly improve performance of multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh networks.
