Abstract
Peptaibols (peptidic fungus defense compounds, such as alamethicin F) are powerful elicitors of multiple metabolic activities in plants. In a model system, lima bean leaves, these compounds induce emission of ethylene, along with other volatile compounds which act as synomones. Tendril coiling in touch-sensitive plants can also be effectively stimulated with these substances. (Aib=2-Amino-2-methylpropionic acid, Pheol=phenylalaninol.)
