Abstract

In this paper, the authors outline how the Internet may change the procurement function in a more profound way than is typically anticipated. By altering the conditions that traditionally determined the distinction between direct and indirect procurement, as well as between strategic and transactional tasks, innovative applications allow new organizational arrangements that can ultimately change the shape of the supply chain.
