Abstract

Scholars have written much about helping gays and lesbians share their sexual orientation with others. Absent from the literature, however, is discussion of what may happen in the life of a sibling when a sister or brother reveals she or he is lesbian or gay. Mental health professionals may assist siblings in understanding the meaning that coming out has in the sibling relationship. Case examples of sibling relationships are included to highlight the changes that may result.
