Abstract
is relatively free from the psychological pressure of white society which may be expressed in the following conditions: 1. The society is marked by an underlying, egalitarian philosophy. 2. There is an absence of color differentiation in the definition and motivation of social classes. 3. There is a minimum of lower class status frustration as evidenced by harmonious relations in interand intra-class communication, low crime rate, and conventional sex mores.. 4. The lower class is aware of its potency in the economic life of the community but makes no attempt to become articulate as a class group. 5. There is relatively little exploitation of lower class members by those of the elite group.
