Abstract

17504 Background: An exploratory analysis was performed to investigate if physicians with cancer modify their relationship with the profession and with the patients. Methods: The modifications have been surveyed through an ad hoc questionnaire (Q). Q (107 items) covered personal data, involvement in cancer diagnosis and therapy definition, changes in personal and professional life including 2 questions about the perceived overall modification (“the cancer changed the way I work” and “my relationship with the patients has changed”) and 24 specific items (eg “time devoted to study has changed” and “I agree more easily with support or nonconventional therapies”). Through the support of the AIOM, Q was distributed to all 205 associated head oncologists, to be further distributed to the cancer affected doctors. Betweeen 12/2006 and 3/2007, 103 self completed Qs have been collected, with no selection by gender, age, type of cancer. 12 Qs were excluded from the analysis because of missing data.
