Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes of wavefront aberration and corneal surface regularity in dry-eyes patients after instillation of artificial tears. Methods The study comprised 30 eyes of 18 volunteers in whom dry-eye had been diagnosed. The wavefront aberration measurements and corneal surface regularity measurements were done on dry eye patients before instillation of artificial tears and 1 second and 10 minutes after instillation of artificial tears.High order aberration(RMSg),spherical aberration(C12),horizontal coma(C8),vertical coma(C7)and corneal surface regularity(SRI)(SAI)were collected. The results were analyzed with software of SPSS 12.0.Results The RMSg,C12,C8,C7,SRI and SAI decrease significantly 1 second after instillation of artificial tears(P≤0.01),and were stead 10 minutes later. Conclusions Instillation of artificial tears can release the irritations and improve visual quality. The wavefront aberration measurements and corneal surface regularity measurements may be useful to evaluate the benefits of artificial tears instillation in dry-eye patients.
