Abstract

Human peripheral blood lymphocytes were stimulated with phytohemagglutinin (PHA). The activities of several acid hydrolases were measured. The results indicate that the response of the individual enzymes varies widely. Most enzymes show an increase in total activity compared to controls and to time zero. However, acid ribonuclease activity exhibits a marked decrease below control values. This is consistent with the accumulation of RNA which occurs at this time. The possible significance of the changes in ribonuclease activity is discussed.
