Abstract

AbstractThe realization of creative potential through the promotion of conditions for creative accomplishments is an important issue to be addressed by schools from all of the continents. The need for conditions more conducive to the nurturance of creativity has been pointed out by many scholars who have called attention to the ingredients necessary for creative productivity. Creativity is also considered as a basic component of giftedness, and it is one of the topics most addressed in the ongoing discussion on the nature and nurture of giftedness. However, studies and observations in schools suggest that, while creativity is essential to meet the challenges of change, competition and complexity of modern times, much needs to be done in order to awaken the educational systems in many countries to the importance of nurturing creativity in schools. In this article, some of the challenges to creative development are described and illustrated.
