Abstract

Recent development of high-performance computers and numerical techniques on wind engineering has enabled us to simulate the complicated flow such as the wind around buildings. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is expected to be adopted as an applicable technique for evaluating wind load for wind-resistant design of buildings. For numerical prediction of fluctuating wind pressures on buildings, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is effective to simulate unsteady flows around buildings. The authors performed LES for investigating the wind characteristics in a real urban district. The complicated flow field in an urban area is reproduced by LES using unstructured grid system. In

this paper, the computed pressures on a tall building are compared with experiments and the applicability of unstructured LES for wind-resistant design of buildings is examined.
