Abstract
ABSTRACT In Reply.— We appreciate the comments made by Drs Vincent and Robbins regarding the use of ceruletide (Tymtran) postoperative adynamic ileus. Their remarks are correct. By error, the words in the United States were inadvertently dropped from the sentence question. We are well aware of the publications cited, and at the University of California, San Francisco, a research study has investigated the use of ceruletide dogs with adynamic ileus following abdominal surgery. These data have not yet been published, but appear to confirm observations made by other investigators foreign countries. However, despite many studies from other countries that provide ample evidence of restoration of intestinal peristalsis following injection of ceruletide patients with postoperative adynamic ileus, as well as evidence of good tolerance of the drug patients, labeling recommendations for the use of ceruletide these patients is not approved by the Food and Drug
