Abstract
The project for building a 300 GeV proton synchrotron was one of the principal items on the agenda of the council of CERN which met at Geneva on June 14–15. There were discussions of the extension of the CERN convention to include a second laboratory, and of the procedure to be used in selecting one of the nine sites on offer. The council also discussed the place of the 300 GeV proposal in the future development of high-energy physics in Europe.
