Abstract

Abstract A case of massive cerebral and generalized venous thrombosis occurring in a young man with ulcerative colitis is reported. This association appears to be rare; only 2 cases have been previously reported. The literature on thromboembolic complications and coagulation abnormalities in ulcerative colitis is reviewed. Thromboembolic phenomena are not frequently recognized clinically but the incidence is higher in autopsy studies.
