Abstract

The basic investigations on cerebello-vestibular relations started with the experiments of Magnus (1914) and de Kleijn and Magnus (1920), who reported that labyrinthine reflexes were constantly present in cerebellectomized animals. The statement by de Kleijn and Magnus (1920) that the essential pathways mediating the labyrinthine reflexes do not course through the cerebellum was supported by later investigators (Dusseb- de Bakenne, 1923, 1937; Rademaker, 1931). This finding, however, did not disprove the hypothesis of a cerebellar control of the brainstem mechanisms underlying the labyrinthine reflexes.
