Abstract
Neonatal thymectomy in CBA and Webster-Swiss mice resulted in posterior paralysis in 21% of the former and 11.4% of the latter. Foci of necrosis were found in the nervous system and localized regions of degeneration in the white matter of the cord. Liver necrosis was a common concomitant. From neither liver nor nervous system has disease been passaged into suckling mice. The lesions are probably due to a virus whose symbiotic relationship with the animal's tissues has been disturbed by thymectomy.
